SWTOR - Tips and Tricks

Postby Omens » Sun Dec 04, 2011 19:03

Hi all, i learnt a few things while playing Beta like you and maybe sharing them could be a good thing...

How to see your FPS (Frame per Second) :
Press Ctrl + Shift + F
Check the numbers in the bottom left corner of your screen.
There is actually two values like this : 75 (98)
Thx to Mirael explanations, the 1st value is Actual FPS and the 2nd one is Average FPS.

How to add in a Chat Channel the name of an item with its description summary linked to that text :
In Chat Channel write your text (for example "WTS") then open your inventory,
Press Shift and left clic the item from your inventory.
Its colored name will appear in the chat channel.

How to Open your Shematic window recipes when all Companions are busy ?
Press N to open the Crewskill window, then click the small Crewskill icons on the top of the window in front of the Crewskill names.
You may also access the list of shematic or the Missions lists.

How to split stacked items ?
Open your inventory and press Shift then Drag & Drop the stacked items on another inventory free slot.
A window appear asking you how many items you want to move to the new inventory slot.

How to buy a specific quantity of crafting Supplements from the Crew skill vendor ?
Simply use the "split stacked items" trick upper to drag and drop pressing Shift from the vendor item list into your inventory.
You will automatically pay for the whole. Better than clicking 50 times...

Feel free to add more Tips and Tricks !

CTRL+u to remove hud...good for taking screenshots.

Option under preferences to show up companion items comparisson when hovering over items...I think default is to compare your equipped items only...but is handy to see theirs too. Needless to say, check out all the preferences initially, to suit your own style.

Also found it really helped to zoom out a lot on the mini map in the bottom corner...default magnification is a bit too high I think.

It is quite simple.
On a Chat channel title do a right clic and select to create a new Channel. At this moment a pop up window appear asking you to name that new channel... So write "Group" for example...

Then you have now a new Chat channel.
Now you need to be in a group....

Once you are grouped with your favorite old fellow from TRF ^^

You can clic on the new Group channel to have it "activated".
Then press on the big orange Bubble talk icon at the low left border of the Chat channel window.
It will offer you all Chat modes available.

Because you are in a Group, the Group chat is showing in the list.
So just press it.

From now each time you write something in your new Group chat channel, the text will be shared for your Group mates.

Additional notes :
To make it more effective, You can open the Chat channel preferences and uncheck the 3 boxes at the top of the list to mask the messages from the General, Trade and the other one ( i forgot name) channels.
So you can read easily the Group messages only.

Hope that help.

ctrl+u reloads the UI entirely. It's meant for debugging purposes.

alt+z is just a turn on/off feature.

Not sure how to read it but i noticed one value was recalculated much faster than the other. So i think its the Frames per second.

That's FPS indeed. First is your current FPS, the other is your average FPS.

for melee classes I found it quite useful to go into key binds and find nearest enemy target...then bind said option to my mouse thumb button...

range and overall targeting is very good with this option as well helps immensely...

Did anyone find a way to add an auto-attack? Or are we all going to be breaking the 1 keys / right-mouse buttons on our keyboards and mice?

Thank you! Great to see you understood what I meant despite my missing letters (due to a failing keyboard). :)

Is there any way to relocate some keys? I'm thinking about the bug report key, binded in my keyboard to the "ยบ" key, the next to the "1", and I trigger it in middle of many fights. I fiddled around options but couldn't find it.
